On 30th July 2025, the Managing Director of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) received the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) and her delegation at the REMASAB Headquarters as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in advancing environmental sanitation, occupational health, and social welfare.

The meeting featured presentations on the mandates, organizational structures, and operational activities of both institutions, providing a platform for identifying strategic areas of mutual interest and collaboration. Discussions focused on key issues including waste management operations, occupational health and safety, the ‘AbbaCare Programme’, support for vulnerable groups, house-to-house verification exercises, waste segregation at source, mapping of street sweepers for inclusion in the State’s free health insurance scheme, and the proposed establishment of a health clinic at the REMASAB Headquarters.

The engagement reinforced the strong partnership between REMASAB and KSCHMA and laid the groundwork for sustained collaboration in promoting environmental sustainability and public health. It also advanced discussions on expanding health insurance coverage for street sweepers and other sanitation workers, strengthening occupational health and safety measures, supporting data-driven verification initiatives, encouraging source-level waste segregation, and exploring the future establishment of a dedicated healthcare facility to serve REMASAB personnel.
