On 7th August 2025, the Managing Director of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) officially flagged off a large-scale evacuation of decades-long waste at Unguwar Kofar Wambai, Kano, as part of the Board’s ongoing efforts to improve environmental sanitation and ensure a cleaner, healthier living environment for residents.

The operation was initiated to address the accumulation of waste in the area through the strategic deployment of REMASAB personnel, waste evacuation trucks, and other operational equipment. The exercise forms part of the commitment of the administration of His Excellency Alhaji Kabir Yusuf through sustained interventions aimed at enhancing waste collection efficiency, restoring environmental cleanliness, and preventing the public health risks associated with indiscriminate waste disposal.

The flag-off marked the commencement of an intensive cleanup operation that accelerated waste evacuation activities and significantly reinforced public confidence in REMASAB’s commitment to effective sanitation service delivery. It also demonstrated the Kano State Government’s resolve to sustain proactive environmental management initiatives that promote public health, environmental sustainability, and improved quality of life across communities.
